Blue is the new Blue
When designing your new web solution have in mind what the current trends are, what shapes, what colors and what features are most used and more importantly are they done so with success? With the unmistakable power of Social Media Platforms in today's internet hemisphere it is evident that there is a common trend amongst some of these services; the color blue.

These five services use these shades of blues in different ways on their homepages, but why? Is it to create a shared understanding amongst users, that they are currently on a Web 2.0 piece of land? Is it to associate to the other services? or is blue just a fashionable color?
Blue is definitely not the most fashionable color at the time of writing, a role which has been recently evacuated by purple. The purple trend is now over, thank god, but we still see blue as a thriving color in webdesign. The royal blue gives a sense of security (f.x. look at bank websites - Danske Bank) but at the same time it also has an innovative quality that associates to being on the forefront of technology (f.x. look at Philips, Samsung, Skype). All these different examples rely on the qualities and inherent characteristics associated with the color blue. Blue is here to stay for that reason, and will never become yesterday's purple.
What color is your business using? Is there any associated reasons with the choice of color?
