In the coming weeks we will be looking back, in order to get a better understanding of where we are today in the world of webdesign. What we know as the World Wide Web was conceived at CERN (Centre Européen de Recherche Nucléaire) in Switzerland, which is commonly referred to as The European High-Energy Particle Physics lab. A new tool was needed in order to enable the collaboration between physicists and other researchers in the high energy physics community so the Web (as distinct from the Internet) evolved from there.

Many refer to the Internet and the World Wide Web as the same thing, but actually its not. Where the Internet is a network of networks connecting millions of computers, the "Web" is a way of accessing information over the medium of the Internet.
